So what does precision imaging mean to you?? (e.g. resolution/SNR/metabolic info/temperal resolution) What’s most important in your opinion?

Resolution for me, with metabolic info a close second

Imaging such that you have enough information to treat the patient (with a personalized treatment plan). Depending on the pathology that can be SNR, resolution, or other requirements.

Could it be that the widespread adoption of MR spectroscopy has been slow due to the lack of standardization of MR spectroscopy data acquisition and analysis techniques?

My feeling is more that is considered difficult for technologists (correct planning, shimming issues, lack of knowledge on problems and solutions) and radiologists do not have enough experience as they don’t see it often enough

@ Hermien Kan: do you have any ideas on how we can make it more easy? Should we move away from quantifying spectra and treat it more like an image?

That would probably help, and lots of training for areas outside the brain. It would also help if the manufacturers would deal with quantitation seriously. Post-processing packages now offer quantitation and give you fitted spectra with metabolite ratios, but it is unclear what the quality of this is and whether this is CE marked for instance.

Hi Team, congratulations to you too! Do you notice that people think spectroscopy is ‘difficult’? And what do you do to convince them that it is feasible and worth considering?

What a wonderful lecture and powerful message that we need clinical translation. I was wondering what Dennis’ view is on involving patients in these efforts. Can they help by asking for these new technologies?

@ Wietske, yes people often think spectroscopy is difficult. we have put effort in educating technicians with lectures (why is important, what can you do to improve spectra etc) and also we try to give hand-on help during scanning in the clinic. People then realize it is not that difficult as they thought

@ Marion Smits I think patient organisations (maybe not individual patients) can help with adopting new techniques. What do you think?

What opportunities do you see for 14T? (And what would you want to use it for?)

Yes! @Hermien, I can relate to what youโ€™re saying and I think post processing software from vendors should be improved to make MRS a usable imaging method in the hospital. Especially since there is little correlation between metabolite quantification from vendors and other quantification software used in research. So there is room for improvement to make MRS more comprehensible for clinicians.

Great lecture! When can we expect the first spectroscopy courses for radiologists? Like Dennis said, collaboration and knowledge exchange will be key… ๐Ÿ˜‰

@ Anja: let’s organize that together! I like the idea ๐Ÿ™‚
